For over 35 years Wegman Companies, Inc. has been a leader in the Adult Care Residence industry, having developed and managed eight residences strategically located in the major metropolitan areas of Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo, Albany and Binghamton, New York. Each facility has achieved a reputation for providing excellence in personal service and quality accommodations for elderly adults who may require some assistance with daily living.
Wegman Companies, Inc. is headed by President and CEO Philip R. Wegman. His vision - To develop respected , facilities that enable the elderly to enjoy a quality of life experience in a comfortable, secure and enriching environment.
The Company’s goal is to develop distinctive communities where residents can live better, and live longer. This requires an in depth understanding of the population served. Careful attention is paid to the design and layout of the building so that it compliments the lifestyle and special needs of the elderly. There is a continuous search for methods to improve operations. Service, Cleanliness, Dignity and Respect are Company mottos and philosophies practiced at each Manor development.
- In 1972, the Wegman family began its commitment to providing outstanding "homes" for the elderly by building West Side Manor in Rochester, New York.
- Expansion in other areas of Upstate New York occurred when a second West Side Manor was built in Liverpool, New York in 1974.
- A third home, East Side Manor, Fayetteville was constructed in 1976. Other successes followed; Bassett Manor, Buffalo in 1983; Bellevue Manor, Syracuse in 1985; Woodland Manor, Binghamton in 1986; Colonie Manor, Albany in 1989; Bassett Park Manor, Buffalo in 1992 and Perinton Park Manor, Rochester in 1995.
- In October 1998 WCI entered the Ohio market when it developed Brookside Estates in Middleburg Heights.
- The three most recent projects include the opening of The Landing, Brockport, NY, in July 1999, the opening of The Loyalton of Lakewood, September 1999 (developed for a fee), The Landing of Queensbury, December 1999 and the Landing of Canton, Ohio in 2000.
Wegman Companies, Inc. entered the Nursing Home field with the acquisition of Howd Nursing Home, Moravia, New York in 1986. Howd Nursing Home is a 40 bed Skilled Nursing Facility.
An outstanding reputation is the strongest marketing tool. Waiting lists prompted additions at two locations, East Side Manor (1984) and Bassett Manor (1986), and the addition of a Special Care Unit in 1995 to Bellevue Manor to accommodate Residents with Alzheimer’s Disease. To date, there are over 1000 beds and approximately 500 employees working at the various facilities.
In November of 1996, Philip R. Wegman entered into a long-term lease arrangement with The Emeritus Corporation, a national leader in the Assisted Living Industry based in Seattle, WA., for nine of its facilities.
